Alongside the women’s rights protests there were new groups forming to protest the “Muslim ban” that Trump put in place to ‘keep muslims and refugees out’. I decided to look into the signs and banners that were made to fight his decision.
The bottom left image showed a news paper cartoon style image showing the iconic image of the little boy sat after having his house blown up by an air strike being spoken to by Mr Trump himself saying “just a temporary ban on refugees until we find out what the hell is going on”
Two of my other favourite images both contained the Statue of Liberty who is the “universal symbol of freedom and democracy” (National Park Service, 2017 http://www.nps.gov/stli/index holding) tightly holding onto a Muslim / refugee girl. To me this image was very thought provoking as it shows that America, the land of the FREE will stand with those who are fleeing their war torn countries in order to survive and in hopes for a better life. These people aren’t asking for much, their asking for a place that is safe, a place that isn’t under consistent fire whether that be guns or bombs… sometimes both! Their looking for a place for their children to get an education, a place for their children to actually survive without threat or harm. I understand there needs to be proper registration of these people but turning them away from the county that prides themselves on being free isn’t very patriotic of them.
As Trump is the main reason these issues are currently the news another story of a logo that has been ‘unveiled’ on Twitter. (Since I wrote this I have done more research and found out that it is fake. However, the thing that fooled most people was that it wouldn’t even be out of character of Mr Trump to have a logo like that, I found it crazy how many people actually believed it)
“On 27 November 2015, an image purportedly showing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s new campaign logo, one that drew criticism for being reminiscent of the swastika symbol of Germany’s Nazi Party, began circulating via Twitter.
However, the purported logo shown above, which can be seen to contain a swastika in the negative space between the four Ts, did not originate with Trump’s campaign. It was a spoof based on Trump’s personality and public statements that was created by the satirical web site Facthole:
Declaring it the “best, most luxurious, and most expensive logo that any campaign could have,” Donald Trump proudly unveiled his new campaign logo today.”
